We believe that worship has been misunderstood as something that arises from a feeling which "comes upon you," and is subsequently something you "get out of it." But worship is not for us, so it is vital that we understand worship as something that it is rooted in a conscious act of the will, to serve and obey the Jesus Christ. We believe that kind of worship "comes from within."
At CCC we want our worship to center around us emptying ourselves out to God, acknowledging who he is and what he has done for us through Jesus Christ, rather than asking him to fill us up. At the end of our worship services we want everyone to be empty - having poured themselves out to God.
Harold Best, a well-known Christian music educator and writer about worship, says that “nobody does not worship.” In other words, everybody is bowing down to and being formed into the image of something or someone. So we work hard to create an environment that brings you into the presence of God because worship is a soul-shaping habit.
When we gather weekly (Hebrews 10:25) to name the truth and grace of God with singing, prayer, and learning from Scripture, we are formed into worshipers of Almighty God. So, don’t be a stranger or a consumer—become a contributor and engage in worship!
